Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a nonprofit organization based in the USA focusing on environmental health and consumer safety. They evaluate products like cosmetics, cleaning supplies and more, rating their ingredients for health risks.
EWG Verified Sunscreens
Recently they published a list of EWG Verified sunscreens good for you and the ocean. The products must:
- Contain broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection.
- Be free from any EWG unacceptable ingredients like oxybenzone, retinal, palmitate, etc.
- Have a complete ingredient transparency, including disclosure of fragrance components.
- Contain only mineral active filters (Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) in SPF 15-50, and not in aerosol or spray formats.
