There is something special about seeing San Diego from the water. I recently had the chance to experience it aboard City Cruises San Diego Dinner Cruise for an evening of fabulous fare and fun!
The ship captain greets each guests as they board the vessel. A photographer snaps a photo of you beside the commander, before proceeding inside where you’re greeted with either sparkling wine or cider and hors d’œuvres.
As you pull away from the dock into the harbor, the views immediately become the star of the evening. I loved watching the San Diego skyline alongside the iconic USS Midway, Star of India and Coronado Bay Bridge. Table and chairs on the back deck provide the perfect vantage point to watch mored boats peacefully bob in the water as seagulls fly overhead.
Our yacht’s name was Adventure. It accommodates 350 for the dining experience. There’s a nice scene of energy throughout the three levels without feeling crowded.
Soon after launching at 6p.m., a buffet-style dinner is served. The evening I was aboard a choice of three salads was the starter. There was something for everyone with main selections of pasta, chicken, salmon, pork, or steak paired perfectly with potatoes and veggies. All the food is prepared onboard, ensuring freshness and quality. There is a fully stocked bar for patrons to purchase drinks with dinner.
Dining tables are set beside large picture windows so you can eat your meal without missing the scenery.
More than just dinner, a DJ provides tunes throughout the night entertaining diners and enticing them onto the dance floor.
After “cutting a rug” head to the outside deck with dessert and coffee to breath in fresh bay breezes, watch the sunset and city skyline’s twinkling lights.
The ship docked at 8:30PM. We stepped ashore feeling relaxed and refreshed having spent a few hours leisurely gliding San Diego Bay.

October is Kids Cruise Free on San Diego Bay month. Two children ages 12 and under cruise the harbor at no charge when accompanied by a paid adult. A souvenir Junior Captain Cruise Kit with coloring book and crayons, keepsake nautical fidget spinner, and personalized Junior Captain credential signed by the captain is given to budding officers.
